Devices supported by ECS

ECS fully supports the devices listed below, most of which are available from AutomatedOutlet and SmartHomeUSA.
Please call us (423-745-0026) for help in deciding which devices best suit your needs.

If you have a device that is not currently supported, then please send us its communication protocol spec and we'll promptly consider it
(esp as we can usually add support a new device in a day or so). Another option is to support the device yourself via a script (ask us for help).

Terms used below:

      X10 is a technology whereby commands are transmitted to/from light/appliance/sensor modules thru A/C powerlines (using the X10 protocol).

      UPB is a technology whereby commands are transmitted to/from light/appliance/sensor modules thru A/C powerlines (using the UPB protocol).
      This the best power line technology available (in terms of both reliability and longevity).

      Insteon is a technology whereby commands are transmitted to/from light/appliance/sensor modules thru A/C powerlines (using the Insteon protocol).

      Z-Wave is a technology whereby commands are transmitted to/from light/appliance/sensor modules via radio signals (using the Z-Wave protocol).
      NOTE: In order to setup a Z-Wave network, a Z-Wave programmer is required
      (e.g. ControlThink CTTES-20W (ThinkEssentials w ThinkStick) or Vizia RF+ Handheld Remote Controller Programmer).

      RS232 refers to a standard serial port (referred to as COM1/COM2/etc in Windows).
      Note: Most modern PCs no longer include serial ports. But they may be added via an internal card or a USB Serial Adapter.
      Examples of serial cards: PCI-Express Serial 2x and PCI-Express Serial 4x.
      Examples of USB Serial Adapters: TU-S9 (Windows only) and the USA-49WG (Windows & Linux).

      RS485 is a serial connection used for long-distances (up to 4000 ft). To access RS485 devices with a PC,
      an RS232/RS485 converter is required to access it via a serial port (e.g. OR-485 or ASC24W).

      SNMP is an ethernet protocol.

      WiFi is wireless Ethernet.

      RF stands for radio-frequency.

Note: SNMP traps are not yet supported in Linux (Windows only).
